Setting the Table

It began in the Refettorio di San Michele in Pescia.

Fieravante Sansoni, a 17^th Century artist from the nearby village of Sorana, was commissioned to paint a site-specific ‘Last Supper’ for the local monastry; an undertaking which required nine years to complete.

The result is an extraordinary and beautiful painting which was restored in 2008.

This September 2011, thirteen international artists will converge on Pescia to install thirteen separate artworks. They have taken Sansoni’s painting as a rich source of inspiration.

The individual productions span a variety of media - painting, sculpture, drawing, video, sound and installation -

Work has been ongoing since 2010, with frequent on-site visits made by the artists to experience the work first-hand. Each artist brings a wealth of experience and skills; each practitioner introduces his or her unique interpretation of the project.

The resulting exhibition will be open to the public for the two days of Pescia’s Palleo – Saturday 3^rd and Sunday 4^th September, 2011.

This provides a unique window of opportunity to see one of the hidden treasures of Pescia, alongside the artworks of contemporary artists.
